How Website Monitoring Helped Us Detect a Performance Drop Before It Became a Bigger Problem

Table of Contents

Websites change constantly. Plugins update, third-party services go down, and performance issues can appear overnight — even when nobody has touched the website.

Recently, our website monitoring platform detected exactly this type of problem.

On July 16, we noticed that the mobile performance score of a client’s website had suddenly dropped from 94 to 80.

What happened?

Our investigation identified an issue related to WP Rocket’s CSS optimization. Its cloud service experienced an outage, causing CSS optimization jobs to fail.

As a result, almost half of the website’s pages were left without optimized CSS. The original CSS files started blocking page rendering, significantly reducing mobile performance.

Once the service was operational again, we regenerated the optimized CSS, cleared the cache, and preloaded the website.

Performance returned from 80 back to 94.

The entire issue was detected, investigated, and resolved within two days — minimizing the time visitors were affected.

Why continuous website monitoring matters

Without monitoring, problems like this can remain unnoticed for days or even weeks.

Continuous monitoring helps teams detect unexpected changes in website performance, Core Web Vitals, uptime, SEO, accessibility, and other critical areas.

The goal is simple:

Spot problems early. Fix them fast. Before they impact SEO, user experience, conversions, or revenue.
